CMU block sand colored retaining wall next to an aluminum trailer ADU

Betty's protection

Our first step in creating Betty's forever home is to build a retaining wall.  It will control the slope behind her and keep her nice and tidy.  We chose a concrete masonry unit (CMU) in a La Paz color and split faced texture.  The concrete color, along with face texture allows us to cut out the stucco finish.

The soil in this part of Escondido is mostly decomposed granite, so digging the footer was a slow process.  A properly engineered concrete footing and steel insure that Betty will be protected for decades.

A french drain system behind the wall keeps moisture from collection behind the wall.
